August 5, 2011

This morning was hard. We were both feeling a little down and gloomy. We had morning prayers with tears in our eyes and took the Grandma Amy approach to the day: we got up, washed our face and got ready for the day.

We made a list of groceries and went to bye paint. After getting 2 gallons of paint, we stopped for groceries. Bruce let me get a rug for our hall entryway and a welcome mat for the door. As I was shopping for supplies for our lunches (we eat on our way home from Kilunga Hills a sack lunch) I thought some swiss cheese would be good with lunch meat. I asked the girl to slice me off 10 slices. She packaged it up and handed to me and I put it in the cart. “Sharon did you know that cheese was $17.45” Bruce announced. “No let me see” yup, sure enough cheese is very very expensive in Africa. Who knew, so the cheese is $1.74 a slice. Like gold. Hope he enjoys it.

The rug only cost $31.00. I have got to be more careful. Oh good news, Betty Crocker cake mixes came into the Nakamatt. All the sisters were so excited when I called to tell them at the mission office. They are about $4-5 a box, but no one cares. The other day this man had Ragu Spaghetti sauce and it looked so good. But it was all gone. I asked today about it and the guy said it would be 2 months. So I bought some mince/hamburger and went home and made me a batch of home-made. That was after Bruce and I, OK Bruce painted the small living room and even smaller dining room. It feels so much cleaner and smells good. Yes, we stayed with our usual, a rich vanilla color. I’m sure all our kids are laughing because were so boring. Anyway, Heavenly Father blessed our day and it truly turned out to be a sunshine day in our hearts. Tomorrow we are putting another coat of paint on.
